At BOAO 2025, Cochlear formally launched its Nucleus Nexa System, equipped with the new Nexos internal chip, marking it as the first cochlear implant worldwide capable of firmware updates and smart diagnostics. This innovation allows the implant to adapt and improve over time, without needing surgery.
The embedded memory stores users’ personalized hearing maps (MAPs), enabling quick restoration after maintenance or device replacements. Remote monitoring features also alert clinicians when adjustments are recommended, elevating care standards .
Cochlear’s new smart implant is digitally integrated—supporting seamless smartphone connectivity, PCR borders on future streamability, and advanced AI-powered sound processing that dynamically responds to changing environments on par with over 40 years of proven implant experience.
Key Highlights:
World’s first smart cochlear implant: Enables firmware updates and internal diagnostics
Internal memory: Preserves hearing settings (MAPs) for easy recovery or transfer
Smart diagnostics: Alerts clinicians for timely adjustments
Mobile connectivity: Enables app-based controls and future streaming
Regional rollout: Launching across China, Australia, Hong Kong, and New Zealand
Why This Matters
